Should you buy a MLM based cryptocurrency?

I do not intend to answer yes or no with this post.  However, I will give you my experience.

I do want to mention I am not against the MLM business model, if done ethically.  Plenty of people have made money in this business model and will continue to do so.

A few years ago I was excited about a new cryptocurrency that promised to solve the negative aspects of bitcoin.  Some good promotion, a management team promoted with professional credentials.

Months later, there was bad press, complaints from participants, numerous name changes for payment (fiat currency was required).  There was no real evidence of an actual blockchain.

After my experience, I have decided to think carefully about buying a cryptocurrency when the MLM model is involved.

The obvious reason to buy cryptocurrency now is the expectation of increase in value in the future (buy low sell high).

A lot of the cryptocurrencies now have a purpose for the project.  If the goal is worthwhile, the project should naturally attract people to the project, and purchase (and hopefully use of) the cryptocurrency.  So, if the currency seems to have a good future, why would the developers need to have a MLM commission to get the public to purchase the currency?  In other words, a good project should attract investors (see footnote) without the need to incentivize  the purchase of the currency.

Cryptocurrency is not going away.  It is the future.  Governments and legislation are trying to keep up with industry development.  My concern is a well meaning MLM going out of business, and causing doubt and suspicion with legislators, and the public at large.  I am also aware of cryptocurrency scams that are not MLM related.  That is another problem that must be addressed, and the public should be warned consistently by credible people in the cryptocurrency industry.

For now, I choose to purchase cryptocurrency based on the goal of the development team, not based on the payment of  a commission or inventive.
